I've used black onyx stones in a long tear drop shape. For the necklace, I have attached one stone to a silver plated ball chain with a hand forged loop on the other end. It clasps in front by dropping the stone through the loop. The chain is 16" (41 cm) so it sits close to the neck. The stone drops another 1 1/2" (3 1/2 cm). The earring stones have been attached to handmade silver plated rectangular ear hooks. They have a full length of 2" (5 cm).
